Hire Filipino diesel and heavy-vehicle mechanics in Australia

Diesel fitters and heavy-vehicle mechanics for truck fleets, bus operators, dealerships and mining maintenance — the single largest source of Australian demand we see — sourced from Gulf and Asian heavy-equipment contracts and tested on heavy engines in Manila.

Demand and supply

Diesel mechanics sit at the intersection of the two occupation groups with the highest recruitment difficulty in June quarter 2026 — Technicians and Trades (58 %) and the fleets that depend on them. Mining maintenance contractors in Western Australia and Queensland, linehaul fleets and bus operators compete for the same people.

The Philippine supply is deep and specifically heavy: mechanics who have spent years on Caterpillar and Komatsu plant in the Gulf and on Asian mine sites, and fleet workshop technicians on Isuzu, Hino and Volvo. We separate heavy-plant from on-road diesel at screening.

How we test

Engine and driveline diagnostics on heavy engines at Prime Search's Makati workshop, hydraulics fault-finding for plant mechanics, electrical and CAN-bus tracing, with your maintenance manager watching live if you wish.

For Philippine passport holders, Trades Recognition Australia's skills assessment is mandatory before the visa for this occupation. We build the TRA evidence file — documented experience, employer references, trade test results — in Manila, before your nomination is lodged, so the assessment does not become the critical path.

Sponsorship

On the Australian side, the standard route is the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482), Core Skills stream: your company holds (or obtains) Standard Business Sponsor approval, advertises the role to the Australian labour market for the required period, and nominates the position at or above the Core Skills Income Threshold — AUD 79,423 from 1 July 2026 — or the market rate, whichever is higher. The occupation must be on the Core Skills Occupation List. The visa runs for up to four years, with a permanent pathway through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) — Direct Entry where eligible, or the Temporary Residence Transition stream usually after two years of eligible sponsored employment. Home Affairs lodgements are made by a registered migration agent, a legal practitioner or your company itself; we prepare the recruitment, skills-assessment and Philippine-compliance file and coordinate — we do not provide Australian immigration advice.

Mining employers in the Pilbara can also use the Pilbara DAMA, whose list includes heavy diesel mechanics, and Western Australia's state-wide DAMA. Everything here is subject to applicable Australian skills assessment, licensing, occupation and visa requirements.

Frequently asked questions

  • Mining plant or on-road — can you tell them apart?

Yes; it is the first question we ask and the trade test is different for each.

  • Is a TRA assessment required?

Yes — Diesel Motor Mechanic is on the mandatory list for Philippine passport holders. We build the file in Manila.

  • FIFO rosters — will candidates accept them?

Filipino mechanics from Gulf and mining backgrounds are used to camp rosters; we brief every candidate on the roster, the site and the climate before the interview.
