Filipino nurses and care staff for Austria

Nursing professions are nationwide shortage occupations in Austria, and the country has already opened the door to the Philippines: Upper Austria ran the first recruitments, Vienna signed an MoU on Philippine nurses in July 2023. Here is the route — recognition first, language second, the card third.

The route, plainly

Nursing is regulated: a Filipino BSN nurse needs recognition (Nostrifikation) of the degree by the competent Austrian authority before working as a Diplomierte Gesundheits- und Krankenpflegerin; where equivalence is partial, an adaptation course or examination is required, and a temporary, supervised employment in a care role is possible meanwhile. Registration as a graduate nurse in the Austrian Health Care Professions Register requires German at B2; nursing assistants (Pflegeassistenz, Pflegefachassistenz — both on the 2026 shortage list) have their own recognition and language rules. The Rot-Weiß-Rot card as a skilled worker in a shortage occupation is the residence title; the Pre-Check register does not apply to regulated health professions, so recognition runs on its own track.

How we recruit nurses for Austria

Prime Search screens for the BSN, PRC licence, hospital experience and specialty you need; German preparation in Manila to B1 with partner schools; the recognition file prepared for your authority; recorded clinical interviews for your nursing director. For assistant roles (Pflegefachassistenz, Pflegeassistenz) the recognition path is shorter; we say which applies per candidate. Everything here is subject to the Fachkräfteverordnung in force, the AMS assessment and Austrian residence and labour law and the health-profession recognition rules.

German is not a legal condition of the card for most shortage occupations, but it earns points (A1, A2, B1) and it decides how fast a worker becomes productive. We prepare candidates in Manila on request — A1/A2 for trades and hospitality before departure, B1 as the target for care and customer-facing roles — with partner schools and Goethe/ÖSD examinations.

The Philippine side

Recruitment runs through our own DMW-licensed agency, Prime Search Manpower Agency Inc. in Makati (licence DMW-027-LB-11182024): your company is accredited at the Migrant Workers Office with jurisdiction for Austria, the job order is registered with the DMW, and every worker leaves Manila with a verified contract, medical clearance, pre-departure orientation and an Overseas Employment Certificate. The Philippine ban on direct hiring applies; the employer is always your company, directly.

Frequently asked questions

Twelve to eighteen months from selection is realistic: German to B2, nostrification and registration, the card. Assistant roles have shorter recognition paths.

  • Does the Pre-Check register speed up nursing?

No — it covers vocational trades, not regulated health professions; nursing follows the Nostrifikation route.

  • Which Länder are active?

Vienna and Upper Austria have public programmes; employers in every Land can recruit on the shortage-occupation card.
