Automotive technology is one of the three largest skills gaps the IW counts — 15,900 unfillable positions — and Filipino dealership and fleet technicians are the supply: Toyota, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Hyundai networks, diesel fleets, diagnostics.
Every dealership, fleet workshop and bus depot in Germany is short of mechatronics technicians, and the shortage is growing with the vehicle park's electrification. The Philippines trains automotive technicians through NC II–IV, two- and three-year Automotive Technology diplomas and brand programmes at the Japanese and Korean dealer networks; diesel fleet technicians come from logistics and mining contracts in the Gulf.
Scan-tool diagnostics, electrical fault-finding, engine and driveline tasks against time at Prime Search's Makati workshop; heavy-diesel tests for truck and bus candidates; German enrolment after selection with B1 as the target for customer-facing workshops. High-voltage qualification for EV work is completed in Germany.
Route for this trade: the experience route (§ 6 BeschV) for candidates with a two- or three-year technical diploma and two years' experience — at tariff pay in a tariff-bound company, or €45,630 a year in 2026 — with no recognition procedure; the recognition partnership (§ 16d) with A2 German where you want the German title; the vocational-training visa (§ 16a) with B1 for candidates who hold an NC II only.
